ACESS indicated that it will launch contempt proceedings against the Minister of Social Development because in its view the court order to accept other documents a proof of identify had not been complied with.

Court case to improve access to Child Grant

Discretion to accept non-ID proof of identity

A court challenge to regulations on the Child Support Grant was settled between the parties, and the settlement was made an order of court. The settlement provided that officials have the discretion to accept proof of identity other than a birth certificate or identity document.
