Governance: the Implementation Committee
The national Child Labour Programme of Action (CLPA) is overseen by the
Implementing Committee of the CLPA, which comprises
representatives of several government departments and representatives
of business, labour and non-governmental organisations. It is the
national steering committee of the child labour programme in Sout
Africa.
Chaired by the Department of Labour, the Implementing Committee’s
specific responsibilities are to:
- Coordinate activities of various departments and organisations in accordance with the steps recommended in the CLPA.
- Integrate the goals and activities of the CLPA into the plans of the government departments and organisations that are represented on the IC.
- Guide the implementation of the country plan developed by the programme Towards the Elimination of worst forms of Child Labour (TECL).
- Monitor progress of various departments and organisations in meeting their responsibilities under the CLPA.
- Advise on the selection and execution of projects that may enhance capacity to implement the CLPA.
- Promote the CLPA and its objectives among stakeholders and other interested parties.
- Explore additional sources of support and funding so that the national plan can be successfully implemented.
- Raise awareness of child labour in society at large.
