- Agriculture
- Including subsistence and commercial agriculture
- Child domestic work

- Liquor making and selling
- Including the formal and informal sector.
- Mining
- Including quarrying and gem collecting. Mining is generally seen as a very hazardous sector, within which children should not work.
- Performing arts
- If such work done in compliance with national law and international child labour conventions, it is not considered child labour. Eg, if a child of 11 years old in South Africa acts in a movie, and the employer complies with a permit issued in terms of the relevant regulations, the law sees this as acceptable.
- Recycling and waste picking
- Sometimes referred to as 'scavenging'. Including child labour in rubbish / garbage removal.
- Retail sector
- Including street vending
