Ethical trade and consumer action Up one level Fair trade and ethical buying within the clothing industry As a result of all the human rights violations caused by sweatshop conditions for workers and the exploitation of children and women in the workforce, parts of the global north is demanding justice by dressing responsibly and demanding Fair Trade certification from businesses worldwide. This article considers this issue - and discusses a number of specific cases - while noting that most major retail firms are cutting costs and not considering the consequences.
